Last year, my music-based side project Voyd Studios had the opportunity to sit down with Wisconsin music legend Jack Koshick.
In the 1980s, there was a dark, dingy, world-famous place in Milwaukee called the Odd Rock Cafe.
That was Jack’s place.
It’s most notorious for being the venue where, on a particularly fateful night in March of 1989, punk rocker GG Allin defecated on stage and threw it on the crowd. Allin was charged with disorderly conduct and public indecency, though his lawyer argued in a Milwaukee courtroom that “there’s serious artistic value to what he does.”
Jack is also widely known as the founder of the world-renown Milwaukee Metal Fest, which is happening this weekend at Milwaukee’s most haunted music venue, The Rave.
Watch our interview with Jack about the history of Milwaukee Metal Fest to learn how it got started, how he lost more money in a few months than I’ll ever see in a lifetime, and how he won it all back at Potawatomi to pay off the loan sharks.

Help J. Nathan Couch Find His Father
Over the years that I’ve known him, my friend and long-time collaborator J. Nathan Couch has tracked down some of the most bizarre and elusive Wisconsin legends. He’s authored two fascinating books on the unexplained: Washington County Paranormal and Goatman: Flesh or Folklore? Not to mention he’s been conducting the wildly popular Downtown West Bend Ghost Walks for over a decade.
But he’s now embarking on the arduous task of tracking down his dad.
“My biological mother passed away when I was young, and the identity of my biological father is unknown,” Nate writes. “I've spent 30 plus years wondering who exactly I was. Where do I come from?”
Nate just launched a GoFundMe to begin this journey. Please check it out and, if you are able, contribute to help him solve the biggest mystery in his life. Thank you!

Halloween News
It’s May, which means we’re half way to Halloween and it’s about time we get some Halloween updates! Here are two recent announcements of things to look forward to this fall:
Monster Mash Spooktacular Dinner Show: The Legacy Dinner Theater, home of the insane Christmas in the Dells Dinner Show, is bringing that same energy to spooky season with a “Halloween-inspired musical extravaganza” with music, dancing, comedy, and interactive fun for the whole family. Now, this likely won’t be quite as dark as our favorite disturbing Wisconsin Dells attractions, but it still sounds like fun.
Nightmare off 8th Street: After a great run, Wisconsin’s biggest and best Halloween celebration Windigo Fest is no more. However, my new favorite people in Manitowoc are bringing something new to the scene. Earlier this month, it was announced that Jessica Phillips, owner of Black Heart Books (an independent book store dedicated to horror!) and Ariane Gunderson of Waves Yoga Studio, are organizing a fall street festival to make it's debut this October! Remember when some people thought Windigo Fest was inviting Satan to Manitowoc? I hope they’re excited for this one, too.
