The Wisconsin Automotive Museum is home to the largest collection of Kissel cars in the world, and they were made right there in Hartford, WI. But the inexplicable photos one visitor captured may to speak to something else from the past that still inhabits the old building.
The Winter Without a Klunker
You know it’s officially spring when the car falls through the ice. At least, that’s how it works in Menominee, WI. The Menominee Lions Club has put a “klunker” on the ice of Lake Menomin every year since 1961 to take bets on when the ice will thaw enough for it to fall through. So far this season, however, we haven’t had enough winter to safely put the car on the lake.
Will this be the first winter in decades without a klunker?

Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield was founded in 1929 with the intention of making it a cemetery “without gloom.” To accomplish this, the grounds were purposefully landscaped to have a park-like feel and all gravestones are restricted to flat markers flush with the ground. The iron gate pictured here still stands at the entrance today.
