Driver almost hits Goatman near Holy Hill
PLUS: What's bumping in the night at St. Kilian's Cemetery?
Goatman is one of my favorite Wisconsin legends. And not just because Wisconsin Frights HQ is positioned between two of the most prominent goatman hangouts, but also because, while many other monster sightings are relegated to the past, locals still seem to be running into this ill-tempered beast.
I recently sat down with my friend and Goatman expert J. Nathan Couch to talk about the 10th anniversary of his seminal work on the creature, Goatman: Flesh or Folklore? The full video is coming soon, but in the meantime here’s a clip of him sharing an eyewitness account that occurred near Holy Hill. This encounter didn’t make it into print because it was shared with him just after the book went to press.
The Fright Club is your all-access pass to the strange corners of our great weird state, offering exclusive content, ad-free articles, a continuously updated interactive map of Wisconsin oddities, merch discounts, printed goodies, and more.

Bumping in the Night
I’ve been working on a project that lead me on a journey to uncover evidence of Satanic rituals said to have been taking place in the dilapidated St. Kilian’s church basement before it burned to the ground.
I shared a funny quip from a news article about the haunted cemetery where the church once stood:
My caption: “The moaning you captured during your EVP session may not be ghosts😂”
So far, it hasn’t helped generate any new evidence of black masses or devil worship. However, thanks to Jeff of Badgerland Legends and Lake Geneva Ghost Walk tour guide Rita Mae Moore, it did provide this epic tale:
New Gein
It was announced this week that Charlie Hunnam (Rebel Moon, Sons of Anarchy) has been tapped to play the role of Ed Gein for the next season of the Netflix series Monsters. He joins the ranks of a small number of actors who’ve portrayed the Butcher of Plainfield.
